PCI was founded in 1992 to market the unit commitment optimization technology developed by Dr. Fred Lee. Under his direction, PCI has successfully brought this technology to the commercial market as a software product called Scheduler. Since then, PCI has steadily added product features, top-tier energy customers, and team members that continue to grow the business.

In 1999, PCI introduced PCI GENTRADER® to address the operational and physical optimization needs of those in deregulated energy trading environments. The overwhelming response to PCI GENTRADER® propelled PCI to market leadership in both regulated and deregulated markets. Realizing the need and importance of PCI GENTRADER®, within the energy industry and the need for web-based connectivity of software solutions, PCI developed, released, and implemented the first version of PCI GENPORTAL® in 2001.
