Golden Valley Selects PCI GenTrader for Optimization of Diverse Portfolio Including Battery Energy Storage.
November 24, 2015 – Norman, OK – Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) has selected PCI GenTrader for generation resource optimization. PCI will implement PCI GenTrader and will be operational with the application within a month.
Golden Valley Power Systems Manager, Allen Gray noted, “PCI was able to demonstrate a robust optimization engine with our specific data in a short two-day training session. After getting hands-on training and seeing the capabilities of modeling our specific portfolio including the ease of use we wanted to implement the solution right away.”
Golden Valley will use PCI GenTrader for daily optimization of their seven generating facilities with a diverse fuel mix of oil, coal, natural gas, hydroelectric and wind. The portfolio also includes Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) that can provide 27 megawatts for 15 minutes (or up to 40 MW for less time), if necessary.
“Being able to use our applications to demonstrate measurable and quantifiable value is rewarding to both our customers and PCI. Complexity in optimization is not necessarily measured in the overall portfolio size but rather the components within the portfolio. We are looking forward to our relationship with Golden Valley and solving the complex generation optimization requirements they have,” said Jason Kram, PCI’s Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.
