PCI Selected by APS for Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence Solutions

APS will perform robust real time and post-analytic processes

Norman, OK – August 26, 2013 – PCI’s (Power Costs, Inc.) Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence software will enable real-time pricing reports and operational post analysis for Arizona Public Service (APS). APS will use the system to provide critical information to front- and back-office personnel for operational decision support and regulatory and management reporting.

APS is implementing PCI’s Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence software to replace existing systems and processes. The implementation will help APS better meet its regulatory compliance requirements, reduce manual processes, enhance position reporting and improve operational efficiency through better unit commitment and dispatch.

“We needed a solution to price deals in real time for our trading operations and also a complete replacement of our post-analysis system,” said Justin Thompson, APS director of business support. “We expect the addition of the new PCI modules to directly enhance APS’s ability to better understand its physical position and improve its flexibility in dealing with market volatility and renewable resources.”

The PCI system will allow APS to automate the back-casting process, write simulations to a data repository and provide industry standard reporting tools that will easily provide audit reports, profitability comparisons and cost efficiency analysis. This will enable the market operations team to better respond to volatile market, plant and outage conditions which increase the risks that could impact APS’s cost to its customers.

“We are pleased to continue expanding our system at APS and help retire legacy applications,” said Jason Kram, PCI’s vice president. “Our Data Warehouse and Business Intelligence solutions have resonated extremely well with our customers and provide them with scalability to leverage both near-term and historical data to identify market, operational and performance trends to improve future operations.”

PCI’s implementation at APS will include PCI Data Warehouse, Position Analyzer, Real Time Pricing and Post Analysis modules to provide functionality when it comes to position management, risk analysis, operations analysis, outage evaluation, transaction evaluation, margin evaluation, and post analysis and reporting.
