Sunflower Electric Power Corporation Selects PCI Profit & Loss Analyzer to Provide Near-Term Feedback on Market Operations in SPP’s Integrated Marketplace.

July 9, 2014 – Norman, OK – Power Costs Inc. (PCI) is pleased to announce that Sunflower Electric Power Corporation (Sunflower) has selected PCI Profit & Loss Analyzer to post-analyze the operation of Sunflower units in the new SPP Integrated Marketplace, provide near-term feedback to Sunflower management on the effectiveness of day-ahead and real-time bidding strategies, and identify potential operating problems. Specifically, PCI P&L Analyzer allows Sunflower to:

  • Compute market revenues, production costs, and profits and losses for the Sunflower portfolio with generators, loads, bilateral contracts and TCR/ARR contracts.
  • Understand settlement impacts of day-ahead and real-time operations and verify whether SPP Make-Whole Payments for Sunflower generators are correctly computed.
  • Determine when Sunflower generators are running “in-the-money” or “out-of-the-money.”
  • Identify when Sunflower generators are losing money due to operational problems, SPP penalties or missing make-whole payments.
  • Review and fine-tune bidding strategies for Sunflower wind farms.
  • Quantify value of better load forecasting.

Sunflower is currently using the PCI suite with great success for ISO communications, meter management and profit and loss analysis,” said Mark Eacret, senior manager of market operations and power contracts at Sunflower. “PCI P&L Analyzer allows Sunflower to get meaningful and timely settlement feedback on bidding strategies and operations.”

“As a business intelligence tool, PCI P&L Analyzer is a game changer and is currently deployed very successfully at a number of SPP trading floors to provide settlement feedback to front office and plant personnel,” said Khai Le, senior vice president at PCI. “PCI is actively engaged in SPP’s Phase II initiatives and continues to be proactively involved in SPP market working groups.”
